A Decade of Coote Finlay – Honouring Over 70 Years of Finlay Heritage

The story of Finlay block-making machinery began in 1953, when John Finlay built his first block machine. Over the decades, the Finlay name became synonymous with reliable mobile block-making and handling equipment, earning the trust of customers across the world.

In 2008, SRS Machinery took on the Finlay range and continued supporting its loyal customer base. But the next major chapter came in 2016, when Coote Engineering acquired the full product line, bringing together decades of heritage with a clear vision for the future.

Modernising Mobile Block-Making for the Modern Era

When we took on the Finlay range, one thing became clear: while the machines were dependable, much of the technology had remained unchanged for nearly forty years — especially the electrical systems.

Over the past decade, our engineering teams have delivered a series of major advancements that have transformed the capabilities and performance of mobile block-making machinery.

Key Modernisation Milestones for Coote Finlay

• Complete redesign of electrical systems
  After more than four decades operating on a 110-volt platform, we introduced a modern 24-volt system, improving safety, reliability, and enabling advanced digital controls.
• Industry-first telematics & production reporting
  Coote Finlay became the first in the sector to integrate telematics, remote diagnostics, and detailed production reporting — giving operators and managers real-time insights to reduce downtime and maximise productivity.

These innovations helped bring mobile block-making in line with the expectations of today’s manufacturing environments — and set new standards that competitors across the industry have since followed.

A Decade of Growth and Global Reach

In just ten years, Coote Finlay has:

• Manufactured over 120 machines
• Produced more than 300 mould boxes
• Expanded into multiple international markets
• Launched a large-scale block-making machine in North America
• Developed new products scheduled for release later this year
